In this region we find four Denominations of Origin: Getariako Txakolina , Bizkaiako Txakolina, Arabako Txakolina and Alava Rioja.
The first three are dedicated to the production of the autochthonous txakolina, white wine popular in the Basque country produced from green grapes, which gives it some appreciated acidity.
Getariako Txakolina 'Chacolí de Guetaria' is producing area which includes the towns of Zarautz, Getaria and Aia, all in the province of Guipuzcoa, with grapes of the autochthonous variety Hondarribi zuri.
Also produced red wines of the autochthonous variety Hondarribi beltza.
Bizkaiako Txakolina ('Chacolí de Vizcaya'). This designation of origin is housed in Leioa (Lejona), which is a municipality in the Metropolitan Area of Bilbao, and includes other towns in Vizcaya.
Recently used French grape Folle blanche and produced some red variety Hondarribi beltza.
Arabako Txakolina ('Chacolí de Álava') based in Amurrio (Álava) and Txakolina originating in the Valley of Ayala.
Original grape is the own variety Hondarribi zuri, and some red variety Hondarribi beltza.
The Rioja alavesa (Arabako Errioxa) is located in Alava, on the left bank of the Ebro river, between 380 and 500 m of altitude.
Their basic production is centered in the tempranillo, with some other grapes .
It produces good wines for their further aging.
