The Valencia Designation of Origin currently represents more than 80 wineries and 11,800 vine growers. The wineries have wisely combined modern viticulture and winemaking techniques with respect for the traditions: making wines of outstanding quality.

Over-delivering quality for price has made Valencia wines a great choice for both national and international markets. Valencia's Mediterranean weather, with mild winters, rainy springs and warm summers and autumns allow the production of constant harvests, minimizing seasonal differences.

Valencia's regulatory board, founded in 1957, aims to establish the wines in the high-end wines market through a Quality Improvement Plan.

To do that, it has initiated projects to plant new vines, improve production methods and construct modern wineries and cooperatives boasting the very latest in technology.

The areas of cultivation within the Valencia D.O. tend to have a Mediterranean climate, with heavy downpours and storms in summer and fall. The temperatures range from 38°C in summer to -4°C in winter. The average temperature is 15°C and the region enjoys about 2,700 sunshine hours per year.

The 32,198 acres of vineyards are divided into four production sub-zones:

Alto Turia: is in the north east of the province of Valencia. It includes the municipalities of Alpuente, Aras de los Olmos, Calles, Chelva, La Yesa, Titaguas and Tuéjar.

It is a mountainous area where vines are cultivated at an altitude of 700 to 1000m. It produces bright, fresh, fruity and aromatic white wines with an alcohol volume of 10-12°.

Vines are cultivated at an altitude of 250 to 800m and the area produces light, fruity, aromatic white wines (10.5 - 12° alcohol) and smooth, rounded red wines (11 - 13° alcohol).

The Moscatel Romano produces a dessert wine with an alcohol content of 15° and a unique aroma, which is fluid and smooth.

The grape is also used to make dry and sweet Moscatels, high-end sparkling wines, as well as to enhance the aromas of other white wines.
