The production area of the "wine of la Tierra Costa de Cantabria" consists of the land suitable for including authorized wine grape production between the coast and the Interior ,influence Atlantic valleys to the altitude of 600 meters with the exception of the municipalities that comprise the geographical area of the wine of the land of Liébana.

Authorized grape varieties

Red: Mencía, Tempranillo, Garnacha tinta, Graciano, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

White: Palomino, Godello, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer.

The production area of the "wines of the land of Liebana" consists of the land suitable for producing  authorized grapes  and bounded by the municipalities of: Potes, Pesaguero, Cabezón de Liébana, Camaleño, Cillorigo de Liébana and Vega de Liébana.

General Characteristics

Natural alcoholic strength by volume at least 10% vol. in reds and 9.5 % vol in white.

Total acidity (gr/l.tartaric acid) between 5 and 8.5 in reds and between 5 and 10 in white.

Volatile Acidity (gr/l acetic acid) shall not exceed 0.8 .

Total sulfur dioxide maximum mg/l: 120 red and 150 white.

Maximum residual sugars 5 gr/l.
