Protected from the sea by the mountains, this designation traditionally well known because of its white wines is located in the southern area of Catalonia, between the provinces of Tarragona and Lleida, and the river basins of the rivers Francolí and Anguera.

The wine producers starts now to experience with the new varieties to elaborate white and red wines.

The Rose wines elaborated with the Trepat local variety deserve a special mention.

The future of these wines is very promising due to the excellent qualities acquired as much by the soil as by the climate, besides the vineyard situation and the investment in new equipments.

The majority of the vineyards are young, conceived with modern growing criteria and very cared.

Besides, the less interesting varieties are replaced by the ones with a better quality.

At the moment, a considerable production proportion of the Designated vineyard, 6000h in total, is destined to the elaboration of the Cava wine-base.

The main varieties grown in the area are Macabeo and Parellada white varieties and Trepat red variety.

Production includes white, rosé and red wines, as well as sparkling wines.

Their alcohol content is moderate, they have a good acidity, they are light and their aroma is finely fruity.

For wines undergoing ageing, ageing will last at least two years.
