We dedicated to let houses for self-catering since 1980. This houses are in Minho, the most beautiful part of Portugal. With ist green valleys, terraced vines and wooded hills and miles and miles of beautiful, vistually unspoilt beaches, it is easy to see why. From the rugged mountainous country to the east of the region, where the hills rise as high as 1200 m, the four rivers of the Minho, Douro, Lima and Cávado run down to the sea. The countryside is fresh and lovely, the hills clad in pine and eucalyptus. The river valleys are enchanting. Casa Barqueiros is a former rural house with an annexed farming building now been converted into a delightful accommodation with an indoor passage between the two on the ground floor. In the main house there is an open plan fully equipped kitchen. It is separated by a small wall from the dining room. In the corridor, there is a hand built double bed which is hidden by a curtain. There is also an independent bathroom. Spiral staircase gives onto the first floor where there are four double bedrooms. Two of them have en suite shower room. The other two bedrooms share one bathroom. On the former threshing floor, a few stairs from the dining room lead onto a cosy lounge decorated with traditional Portuguese furniture and featuring a fireplace. On the first floor there are two ensuite bedrooms, one with a small double bed and the other with twin beds and a cot. Both have French windows with pleasant views to the garden. For outdoor meals, there is a covered area with a barbecue, a table seating 14 people and a kitchen equipped with cooker, fridge/ freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. Next to it there is a small lovely house with toys for children. In the garden there are also two children's football goal nets. Few stairs lead down to the pool area surrounded by an extensive lawned garden. |

The house is located in the midst of land that has been farmed for centuries by the same family and exemplifies the typical architecture of the Minho region. It is surrounded by stables, outhouses and farm buildings, some of them adapted to their modern functions. The most valuable building, however, is the chapel, which dates from 1623 and possesses a curious retable of the same period. The house, shaded by a huge bougainvillea, has a glassed-in veranda, which is now the sitting room, and a wide porch with wooden pillars and railings, where you can sit and enjoy the view. The house was converted in the 1980’s to “rural tourism” and still produces excellent “vinho verde”. There is a popular saying that: “If you go to Geraz to taste the wine, you will surely return another time”. Qunita de S. Vincente has traditionally furnished accommodation that includes heating and a private bathroom. Some have a dining area and kitchenette with a fridge and stove. The menu is fixed, and will be prepared, always when possible, with our farm products. It is composed of an aperitif, a starter, main course, and dessert. You can play football on the grass or in a small foortball pitch, play basketball, badminton or ping-pong. Enjoy the swimming pool and lay on a hammock in the sun or the shade of a beautiful chestnut tree. The pool is in total privacy. On warmer days, breakfast can be served outdoors, beside a small fountain. Buffet Breakfast, which have earned praise from those who have visited us, are served in the dining room overlooking the garden, or near a small fountain outside. Lunch and dinner is served in a very homely manner. The wood fire and food take hours to prepare as it is done with utmost care and therefore if you would like to be served please make the request 24 hours in advance. |
